Coming off of a mercy rule defeat of Lakeland, the Girls Soccer Team looked to show out in the Conference 27 Final versus York. The girls had beaten York earlier in the season 2-0 and hoped to hoist the trophy in the more competitive competition against their rival. The Tabb girls also beat York in the 2016 Conference Championship 5-0.
Living up to expectations, the team was victorious again in the final on Friday, May 25, winning 2-1. The Tigers went up early in the first half on a shot by sophomore, Abby Heckler. Heckler began the season on the defensive line but was soon placed on the offensive line in order to get more pressure up top. Heckler delivered numerous times, including the goal against York that made the score 1-0.
Not five minutes later, the score became 2-0 on a shot by junior, Michelle Sterling. The second half, however, produced no more Tabb goals and instead resulted in a York goal that led to the final score of 2-1. When asked how the team played as a whole in the game, Heckler said,"We connected well and gave a good effort, the only time they got the ball was when we made mistakes." In order to be even more successful in the coming games, she stated that the team needs to "have better communication on and off the field and play with high intensity through the second half."
The girls advance to the Regional Quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 30, against Poquoson.
