Roving Reporter receives a Financial Grant for GMU camp
Haley Williams, a junior, will be attending The National Youth Leadership Forum: CSI & Law this summer. The camp is through the Envision Experience sponsored by George Mason University (GMU) and focuses on the different aspects of law and forensic science in the criminal justice system. Those attending the camp were given the option to pay extra to receive a college credit through GMU.
At the camp, students will have the opportunity to simulate a crime scene, go to trial, and solve the case. When asked what she is most excited about, Williams said, "I am excited about getting to talk to the CSI people, take evidence, and work with others." During the five days of the camp Williams, along with the other participants, will stay in a hotel in the District of Columbia (DC), which is near the school. The camp differs from most, since they do not have a formal application process. The students who attend the camp have to be nominated, and then decide whether they will accept or reject the nomination. If those nominated accept, then they are automatically in the camp.
After Williams had accepted the offer to attend, she heard about a financial grant opportunity. When asked about the grant, Williams said, "The grant was through the York Foundation For Public Education, and was a student resource grant." Williams said of the process, "I had to fill out a packet describing what I was going to do at the camp, and how it was going to help my future. I also had to have one letter of recommendation from a teacher." Williams is happy to have received the grant, because it makes it easier for her parents to pay for the camp. Williams is excited for the opportunities the camp will bring and is grateful to the York Foundation for giving her the grant.
