Roving Reporter takes on Stanford

Reporter Malia Rosburg Accepted into Journalism Camp

Malia Rosburg, junior, has been granted an opportunity to study journalism at Newsroom By the Bay, a week-long camp at Stanford University in California, over the summer. Newsroom By the Bay is a camp whose goal is to grow students' love of journalism and educate them on the ins and the outs of the profession. Students are able to experience the city of San Francisco, the location of Stanford University, as well as get a glimpse of the college life by living on campus. As well as experiencing the college feel, students are able to learn from many highly qualified teachers and educators who have years of experience in the field of journalism. When asked why she is excited to attend the camp, Rosburg states, "Since I don't have the opportunity to learn about broadcast media in school, I am excited for the opportunity to learn more about it there."

In addition to attending the camp, Rosburg will be a student speaker, presenting on the Tiger Times Roving Reporter program. The Roving Reporters are a selected group of journalism students from the newspaper class who "go into the community and find stories to report on," explains Rosburg. Being personally selected from the application process is a high achievement and will help Rosburg excel in her journalism pursuits after high school. As a result of the camp, Rosburg hopes to, "gain story writing skills and piece together a good portfolio."

Thanks to the York Foundation and their grant opportunities, Malia was awarded grant funds to help cover the cost of this amazing opportunity.
