On March 5, Tabb High School's DECA program participated in their state competition located in Virginia Beach. All Tabb members ranked within the Top 10, and teammates Sophie Allen and Kiersten Wark, who ranked 3rd out of 60 teams, are advancing to the international competition ICDC in Anaheim, California. Students from other countries such as Canada, Japan, and China are also expected to attend. Tabb DECA members also attended ICDC in 2016, where most members placed within the Top Ten.
DECA is a program that is highly recommended to students in marketing classes such as Fashion Marketing and Sports Marketing. At competitions they roleplay and are given certain marketing issues to resolve to gain points. These issues may range anywhere from marketing management, pricing indications, finance, accounting, or more. Each team is tested on their event and are ranked based on performance.
In DECA, members are taught to use the skills they learn in their marketing classes and apply them to real life situations. After high school, Senior Sophie Allen is going to major in communications and minor in public relations, topics she learns more about and practices often in the DECA program. "DECA is my major," Allen states.
