The film Hell or High Water is nominated for three Academy Awards, including best picture. Hell or High Water is a brutally realistic look at the struggles of lower class farmers in western Texas. The film, directed by David Mackenzie, centers around two brothers, played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster. The brothers seek to perform a series of bank robberies to save their failing ranch, while a retiring Texas Ranger (played by Jeff Bridges) pursues them.
Jeff Bridges has been nominated for best supporting actor for this role, and while Bridges’ performance does not meet up to audiences expectations, there is still a chance to snag an Oscar. The dialogue of the film makes the viewer question what makes a good person and how far they would go to protect their family. As Niyah Ahmed, junior, puts it, “The movie is pretty sad, but I really enjoyed it.” This contemporary western will compete with many other nominated films to get away with an Oscar this upcoming 2017 Academy Awards.
