Tamia Smith achieves 1000 points over her high school career.
Tamia Smith, senior, reached a ginormous milestone during the basketball game against Smithfield. Over the span of her four years on the girls basketball team, Smith has scored 1000 points as of Saturday, January 28. When asked how she felt about getting 1000 points, Smith spoke about being excited since it was a good way to end her basketball career. Smith knew how many points she had to get during the Smithfield game in order to reach the 1000 point goal, which is something she started to aim for during her junior year.
The achievement of reaching 1000 points reinforced the importance of hard work to Smith, which is a lesson she will take with her to Virginia Tech. Ms. Smith does not plan on playing basketball in college, instead focusing on academics. When asked her wish for the team in the future, Smith said, "I want the team to go far once I am gone."
