Tom Brokaw Writes about his “Lucky Life Interrupted”
Tom Brokaw was having an amazing life, biking around the world, fishing all the time, and even working his dream job at NBC. Until he was suddenly rushed to the hospital, and his consistent back pain developed into multiple myeloma. Multiple myeloma (MM) is also known as plasma cell myeloma, is a cancer of the plasma cells. MM’s symptoms are not easily noticed, especially when the patient is older. Brokaw and his family had just assumed he was getting older, until he was diagnosed with the disease. In A Lucky Life Interrupted Brokaw shares what he went through from the time he was diagnosed until he went into remission. The patient explains how he felt, what he did, and how the doctors explained everything to him and his family.
Brokaw has wonderful doctors and family to help him go through this hard time. Brokaw understands the challenges he will have to go through, but he will go through them with an appreciation of life and is determined to live his life to the fullest even with the horrible disease. “I’ve had a life rich in personal and professional rewards beyond what should be anyone’s even exaggerated expectations,” Brokaw writes, saying he has had a good life in his home life and work life, and understands that it was better than some people’s expectations in life. The disease may have inflicted his life but did not ruin it.
