A Summary of A Lucky Life Interrupted

A lucky life interrupted follows Tom Brokaw as he reports about his life and the changes he encountered after being diagnosed with cancer. Life before the diagnosis was a grand adventure that spanned a lifetime. An accomplished reporter who's stories such as the Berlin Wall, or the story on the Dali Lama and China's government has earned him a reputation for his reports and enabled him to live a lifestyle that some might describe as lucky.

Brokaw admits that after living such a life hearing the news that he has multiple myeloma he felt less shock and more disbelief. "This doesn't happen to me," he remembers himself thinking. Cancer became this impassible wall that blocked all activities he used to love and forced him to confront his own mortality.

Brokaw's family stood as a pillar of hope with wife, Meredith, standing tall and strong beside her husband helping through all his hardships, and their daughter who helped them establish better communications between themselves and the medical staff who assisted Brokaw. With optimistic doctors, a vigorous drug regimen, and the support of family and friends Tom makes his way through the ups and downs of life with cancer to finally recover and is currently in remission.

A Lucky Life Interrupted comes across as just what you would expect a reporter and journalist writing a book to sound like. So while it does not weave a grand story of recovery, it does give an empowering account through Brokaw's eyes and his experiences that a reader is sure to love and learn from.
