A Lucky Life Interrupted: The Event

A Lucky Life Interrupted has many exciting events that Tom Brokaw describes with vivid details. One example would be his recollection of his Berlin Wall story. It starts with Brokaw having a slow day in the office, nothing exciting was really going on around for him to report on. So his superiors sent him off to Berlin to cover a story about the East Berlin citizens, and the news conference that a German officer was holding. No one knew exactly what the conference was about but it wouldn't take long after for everyone to find out. German officer Günter Schabowski revealed that the GDR had decided to implement regulations that allowed people from East Germany to pass into West Germany and the West into the East. Never missing a beat, Brokaw got the cameras rolling and stood at the check points to film the people coming or climbing over to the other side. Whether it’s Nelson Mandela being released from prison or the GDR changing their policy on the East German boarder Brokaw was there to cover it with precision and expert journalism.
