Banding Together Jason Hoffman Marches his Way into his First Year

Jason Hoffman is a freshman trombone player with the Competition Marching Band. Freshman year can be both exciting and scary for many reasons. One way to combat the anxiety that comes along with the beginning of high school is joining a club, sports team, or other extracurricular activities. Band gives students opportunities, allowing them to create friendships within the school and make fun memories. The Competition Band program is a great way for freshmen to get integrated into the high school community.

When Hoffman first joined the band, he did not feel as intimidated as he had anticipated. Instead, Hoffman actually felt much more welcome than he expected. Hoffman admits that the only hard part about Competition Band has been adjusting to the time consuming schedule. In Hoffman's opinion, Mr. Lawson has been a very good influence on his band experience. Hoffman stated that Lawson is a cool and good teacher. One of Hoffman's favorite parts of band is being with his section. The low brass section has created a fun and beneficial learning environment for all those involved. Hoffman looks up to the section leaders and feels that so far in the band journey he is doing well. Though Competition Band has only been to one competition thus far, Hoffman is excited about the season and is eager to learn more.
