The Boston Globe is a newspaper in Boston, Massachusetts and was founded in 1872 by a man named Charles H. Taylor. The Globe was actually privately owned until 1973, when it decided to go public.

In February 1997, the Boston Globe reported on Geoghan’s case, with information stating that the priest had been placed on sick leave after a woman made a complaint to the church officials stating that he had molested her sons. However, even with this early start on the case, it was not until 2001, when Law had a court filing, that things started to get interesting.

Behind this long and enduring article is the Globe’s Spotlight team, which consisted of the editor Walter V. Robinson and reporters Matt Carroll, Sacha Pfeiffer, Michael Rezendes. Pfeiffer and Rezendes worked as the main investigative reporters, while Carroll kept all of the data. Head editor Robinson, worked as a reporter and editor for 34 years and has worked for the Boston Globe for almost as long. While at the Globe, Robinson led the coverage of the “Roman Catholic clergy sexual abuse scandal” as well as the case called “Debtors hell”. Sacha Pfeiffer originally joined the Globe in 1995, but left in 2008 to become a radio host for a local public radio station. However, she came back in 2014 to continue work as a reporter. Carroll started working at the Globe in 1987 and just recently, in 2014, left to work as a researcher at MIT media lab. Rezendes has been working at the Globe and on the Spotlight team for over 10 years. He is the only member of the original team that still works for Spotlight and continues reporting on sexual abuse in the Catholic church.

While not all of the members of the original Spotlight team still work at the Globe, they are all continuing to leave their mark and further their career in journalism.
