On Monday, October 3, three newspaper students went to Richmond to the VHSL conference. The staff had five different time periods with five different lectures going on during within that time slot.
Broadcast Script Writing Tips for Video
Good videos are meant to follow a story (like a song). Videos are meant to connect with an audience. Once you start to write a script, the creator starts to think of other material to add.
What's Your Story?
This lecture was about interviewing people. The interviewer might go into an interview with a set of questions to ask, but one answer might lead to asking another question. If possible, try to get a story from the person your interviewing.
This I Believe (strengthening opinion writing)
The writer must base your opinion on an experience or an acute observation. If your writing a personal column, try to use logos (logic), ethos (understand the agreed upon moral ground), and pathos (appeal to emotion).
Photo Q&A
The point of a critique is to help the interviewee get better, not to make the person feel badly. The speaker gave the class tons and tons of tips about photography. White balance is very important when taking a photo. White balance is how light looks to viewer's eye.
