Mac Miller Steps into the Jazz Genre

Mac Miller The Divine Feminine

Mac Miller, born Malcolm James McCormick, is a 24 year old Pittsburgh rapper currently signed to Warner Brother's record label. Miller signed with Warner Bros. in 2014 for a whopping ten million dollars. Mac Miller has been a proficient rapper, releasing four albums and several mixtapes since his debut in 2010.

Miller's latest album, The Divine Feminine, takes a different turn from his usual happy go lucky music. Instead, this album features Mac Miller crooning over fanfares of brass, 808 drums, and jazzy piano solos. The over-arching theme of the album is that love is an essential 'energy' of the world, something that keeps the world going. During an interview Zane Lowe (Beats 1 Radio), Miller talked about the album cover saying, "It was actually a concept that was told to me about just the energy of the world being a female energy, the energy of the planet, and just kind of like how that mirrors the soul of a woman, and you know, like Mother Earth and falling in love with the universe." The album follows love, heartbreak, and moving on after the end of a relationship. On tracks like "My Favorite Part" (featuring Mac Miller's new girlfriend Ariana Grande), "Soulmate," and "Congratulations," Mac Miller really shines a light on his life and what he has been up to until this point.
